FAQs

1. Is the hockey program an NCAA sport? What league does it play in?
The Ice Rebels are a full member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The ACHA began in 1991, and has grown to over 400 men’s teams from across the nation. Also competing as a member of the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (SECHC), the Ice Rebels compete against Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt as well as  many non-conference opponents. The Ice Rebels strives to expand and create a nationally competitive schedule each seasons.

2. What other opportunities does the ACHA offer its players?
By playing in the ACHA players will have the opportunity to be selected for the ACHA DIII National team, ACHA All- Star team as well as receiving honors for academic achievements. Players will also have the opportunity to be selected to the All SECHC Team.

3. When does the season start and end?
Tryouts start with an interest meeting for all new and returning players during the first week of Fall semester classes. Actual on-ice tryouts for the team are typically during the weekend following the interest meeting. The season starts immediately after tryouts and ends halfway through the Spring semester in March. This long season is typical of all ACHA programs and allows for less dense schedules.

4. How often do you practice?
The team has two 90 minute on ice practices per week along with off-ice training sessions.

5. How many games do you play?
The Ice Rebels play around 25-30 regular season games and participate in the SECHC Tournament along with the possibility of a Regional and National Tournament.

6. Where do you practice and play?
Ole Miss Hockey uses two facilities for home ice. Tryouts, most practices, and a couple of games are at the Mid-South IceHouse in Olive Branch, MS. The rest of the practices as well as home games with larger crowds are at the BancorpSouth Arena in Tupelo, MS. Information for both rinks can be found here.

7. Do you recruit?
Yes. We send out recruitment emails to various programs throughout the country. We also host a recruitment weekend, where interested players can come skate with current players, meet the coaches, and tour the Ole Miss Campus. We encourage players interested in playing to fill-out the recruitment form and we will be in contact with you.

8. Do you offer scholarships for ice hockey?
No. ACHA programs are not allowed to offer scholarships. Please feel free to visit the University of Mississippi Office of Financial Aid.

9. What is the cost to play for the Ice Rebels?
Dues are $2000 per roster player/goaltender. In order to keep dues low, the program has various fundraisers.

10. What will the team cover?
With the dues and other revenues the team will provide jerseys, socks, team warm-ups, shell, helmet, gloves, transportation/lodging for away games, and all practice/game icetime for the year.
