Ole Miss Rebels – 3 Weekend Recap and Weekend Preview

(Olive Branch, Miss.) The Ole Miss Rebels opened the 2012-2013 season against the University of Memphis Tigers on Sept. 7, 2012. The Tigers jumped on the board in the first period to take the lead 1-0. Shortly after, freshman Dan Warnecke of Ballwin, Mo. tallied his first career goal, tying the game at one. The Rebels controlled the rest of the game and defeated the Tigers 6-1. Leo Cuzin, of Paris, France, and Lee Edelman, of Bristol, Conn., attributed to the scoring, netting their first career goals as well.

 

(Olive Branch, Miss.) After a bye weekend, the Rebels faced off against the University of Vanderbilt Commodores on Sept. 21, 2012. The Rebels again struggled in the beginning of the period by letting the Commodores strike first. With several chances to score, the only goal scorers of the game for the Rebels were Lane Aldredge and Ryan Drew. After a strong game in net for the Commodores’ goaltender, the Rebels suffered their first loss by a score of 5-2.

 

(Olive Branch, Miss.) The Rebels and Commodores were back in action on Sept. 22, 2012. Both teams went back and forth the entire game, but it was the Rebels who came out on top. Sophomore, Justin Ragland saved 27 of 30 shots to give the Rebels a 4-3 win and an overall record of 2-1. Freshman defenseman, Sean Rogers scored his first goal as a Rebel with an amazing shot from the slot.

 

(Orlando, Fla.) After splitting games with the Commodores, the Rebels took a long bus trip to Orlando, Fla. to play against last years #2 ranked team in the South, University of Central Florida Golden Knights. After struggling with the Knights in the 2011-2012 season, the Rebels showed much improvement this year. After no scoring in the first period, the Knights scored in the second period to make it 1-0. After scoring again in the second, Leo Cuzin scored with a nice wrist shot to make it 2-1. Towards the end of the third period, the Knights added a couple more goals to make it a final score of 4-1.

 

(Orlando, Fla.) In game two of the UCF series the Rebels were blanked 3-0. They are now 2-3 on the season.
